(St. Francois County, MO) It's election day and voters throughout the Parkland will be going to the polls today. There are three contested races locally including the race for State Representative of the 115th district. The two candidates are Democrat Cynthia D. Nugent and Republican Cyndi Buchheit Courtway. In the 117th District voters will be asked to choose between the incumbent Republican Mike Henderson or the Democratic challenger Tony Dorsett. For the Commissioner District 2 in St. Francois County the candidates are Republican David Kater, and the incumbent Democrat Patrick Mullins. Incumbent Republican, Jason Smith, will be running against Democrat Kathy Ellis and Libertarian Candidate Tom Schmitz for the congressional seat in the Eighth district. St. Francois County Clerk, Kevin Engler, says thousands of people voted early at his office. Engler explains they'll be working to keep the polls safe and sanitary for voters.
There are also two constitutional amendments voters will decide. Constitutional Amendment 1 would change the state constitution to extend the two term restriction that currently applies to the Governor and Treasurer to the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Auditor, and the Attorney General. Constitutional Amendment 3 would accomplish several things including a change of the redistricting process approved by voters. Legislators say the 2018 measure would put the responsibility for redrawing legislative districts into the hands of one person while this amendment would place that duty in the hands of appointed bipartisan commissions. There are no local issues on the ballot. KFMO B104 News will provide complete election night coverage once the polls close this evening.
