(St. Francois County, MO) Officials with the National Weather Service say a winter weather advisory begins tonight at midnight and will continue until 6 o'clock Wednesday evening. Snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are predicted through the advisory period. Portions of east central, central, and southeast Missouri are covered by the advisory. You can plan on slippery road conditions which could have an impact on the morning or evening commute. Roads may rapidly become treacherous once the snow begins, so motorists should plan for a slower than normal trip. Be especially alert when approaching bridges, overpasses, and curves. Low wind chill values will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves and cover all exposed skin. The latest road conditions can be obtained on the Internet from the Missouri Department of Transportation's Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org/map or by calling 1-888-275-6636.
